You will learn the difference between the three types of planning. Be introduced to the types of tools that are appropriate for each.
- Identify the most appropriate data and information that is key for each type of planning and the likely source of reliable information
- Pareto Analysis (or ABC categorisation) will be explained, then you will be shown how this analysis can be done to identify key characteristics of your/ the logistics operation.
- You will build an Operational Planning tool that incorporates the Pareto Groups to differentiate stock management, / customer priority / order size etc.
- Tactical Planning will cover a simple 'what-if' scenario - whereby you will model a change to your current operational methods to determine impacts to cost, customer service and overall resource utilisation - operations will include warehouse spatial mapping and simple transport scheduling
- To carry out Strategic Planning you will be shown how to build a simple gravity model to illustrate demand points and use Keen Thinking optimisation methods

You will work through a complex tender building process.
- You will identify the most appropriate data and information that is required to model the transport & distribution centre operation that collects, stores and distributes all production from a high speed, large volume, manufacturing plant.
- You wil be supplied with the whole tender requirements.
- As a group we will work through the content and prioritise the bid process - allocating tasks to teams of three.
- Using Operational & Tactical Planning tools you will be stepped through how to break down the problems into manageable pieces and build up to a 'Total Solution'
- The 'Total Solution' will have indicative costs and service parameters and build a reporting tool to manage and report performance for the future
Pre-requisites for Applied Tools - those attending should have a good knowledge of Microsoft Excel Spreadsheets.
Keen Thinking Courses will be run regularly at the Hume Global Learning Centre in Broadmeadows and the soon to be open Craigieburn Learning Centre too.

"Keen Thinking" is an extension / expansion to Lean principles with an emphasis on logistics! - In that "logistics" solutions can deliver significant change simply by improving the key capabilities of personnel / managers who plan, analyse or manage the operations of the logisitcs functions within the business.
'Keen', infers that the individual adopting the approach is aiming to be 'astute', 'eager' and they want to be the "difference" between the "everyday operator' and the 'smart knowledgeable expert' ne who aspires to completely understand the overall processes, flows and metrics of their business. They are managers / personnel who have a desire to interpret the data and information in order to plan and control. They understand corporate systems, can identify patterns, interpret these, then present them as real "information" and more importantly KNOWLEDGE to the rest of their team...
The "Thinking" aspect recognises the need for 'consideration', THINKING through a solution rationally, formalising a plan based on the actual facts known, NEVER ignoring forecasted change. Changing the outlook of the logistics practitioner from a 'fire-fighting' respondent to a calmer, managed solution provider. Through developing and training 'Keen Thinking' we at Synergy Logistics Consulting, believe we can/ should be able to elevate the logistics profession to be synonymous with smart solutions which make our manufacturers and distributors more effective & efficient, and successful.
Keen Thinking --> Successful Logistics = Profitable Corporations
